STARSTRUCK: As Essential As WATCHMEN, And More Fun!

The STARSTRUCK Deluxe Edition,
hardcover and softcover printings.
IDW

This is the most essential Graphic Novel you've never read.

Blasting off first in the early '80s, STARSTRUCK was easily as good as WATCHMEN, SANDMAN, DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, and the other Adult Renaissance titles.

In truth, it was better, because it was more ambitious, subversive, and funnier. And it did it before all of them.>

STARSTRUCK wasn't for teenage boys. It was for sharp adults with a sense of wonder. And it was for Riot Grrrls who were too young to know about it yet. It took its cues from Robert Altman dialogue, Winsor McCay and Moebius' art, and the PostPunk era of Feminism.>

Let's face it, those '80s classics were great, but too locked into teen fantasies of aggro-men, which was a grim deadend. So this riotous space opera with a spectrum of powerful women completely blew fanboys' volts then.

Macho angst had its minute, but now we can catch up to the real revolution.

What is it?

STARSTRUCK is Riot Grrrls taking over the universe by hook and crook. In an anarchic future, two dynasties vie to divvy the universal pie. Caught between are Galatia 9, Brucilla The Muscle, Erotica Ann, and the strongest and most diverse array of women (read, human) that Science Fiction has never seen. Throw in psychic nuns, corrupt Girl Scouts, hardboiled bartenders, headless sex droids, amazon clones, and samurai robots.

It is complex, shocking, outlandish, surreal, whipsmart, knee-slapping, half-insane, and five steps ahead. It'll make your brain stretch and your belly shake.

But this is no retro time trip. STARSTRUCK is still light years ahead of anything being made, whether in comics, in novels, or on screens.

The series was rich then, but richer now. This stunningly handsome volume is an all-new remastering of the stories that elevates it even higher. Elaine Lee has expanded the hilarious Glossary, Michael Wm Kaluta has extended the art height on every page by 20%, and Lee Moyer has repainted it with the most lush color job imaginable.

Add to this the previously unpublished Galactic Girl Guides romps, the geyser of extra goodies, and the extra-tall size of the hardcover book...and you have a gorgeous Graphic Novel that puts all others to complete shame. The book is beautiful, and the contents are unbeatable.

Fans of STAR WARS, FIREFLY, FARSCAPE, Alan Moore, AEON FLUX, Grant Morrison, HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE, Allison Bechdel, MONTY PYTHON, Phillip K. Dick, TANK GIRL, Thomas Pynchon, FUTURAMA, LOST, Funkadelic, BATWOMAN, DOCTOR WHO...this treasure trove is for you.

This is smart art for hip people.

Buy STARSTRUCK now, and give copies to friends; the future is better than ever!

STARSTRUCK #13, The Surprise Coda, Is Out Now!

A Bakers' Dozen surprise!

Now that the 12-issue saga of Book One has just ended, for dessert we get a surprise new story all about the Galactic Girl Guides' very first trip to the hedonistic free-for-all of Recreation Station 9!

The Rec Station is notorious to all travelers of the galaxy as a wretched hive of scum and villainy, but can even it withstand the onslaught of the little girl Brucilla The Muscle?

We all know that the '80s renaissance of comix included WATCHMEN, DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, AMERICAN FLAGG, MIRACLEMAN, and LOVE & ROCKETS.

But easily as bold, much more ambitious, and far more funny was STARSTRUCK. Yet the acclaimed series by Elaine Lee and Michael Kaluta was criminally overlooked. And let's face it... it's because it starred kickass funny women instead of terse aggro men. Now it has returned in monthly issues with expanded art and stunning color.

Time to catch up to the better revolution and support STARSTRUCK today!

STARSTRUCK, The Audio Drama!

Elaine Lee and Michael Kaluta’s
STARSTRUCK Comes to Audio!

Official press release

Contact:

Pocket Universe
(formerly, AudioComics)

"Hot on the heels of IDW’s successful re-launch, Elaine Lee and Michael Kaluta’s science fiction classic comes to the world of audio theatre as the AudioComics Company announces its debut production: STARSTRUCK. The audio adaptation of the original off-Broadway production, adapted for the medium of audio by co-creator Elaine Lee, and directed by AudioComics co-founder William Dufris, will record at The Studio in Portland, ME May 7 – 9 for a fall release on compact disc and pay-per-MP3 download, and for airings on selected radio stations in the United States.

"The basis for the comic book series, STARSTRUCK was first presented off-Broadway in 1980, and again in 1983. In a far-flung and very alternative future, Captain Galatia 9 and the crew of the Harpy are on a mission for the United Federation of Female Freedom Fighters. When the Harpy runs into a living ship inhabited by a team of galactic evildoers, including Galatia’s insidious sister Verloona Ti, the outcome of the battle may well decide the fate of the free universe. Often hilarious, always surprising, STARSTRUCK is a spine-tingling joy-ride to the far side of the spiral arm!

"The off-Broadway production received a special audio-drama style reading at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur, CA in August of 2009 with funds raised benefitting comic book legend Gene Colan. Using the rough recording of the reading as a guideline, Lee and the AudioComics Company worked out the changes necessary for the piece to work for the aural medium. Ms. Lee will be AudioComics’ guest for the week, attending both rehearsals and voice-over sessions. The post-production will also employ Dwight Dixon’s re-recorded music from the original 1980’s productions.

"This only marks the tip of the iceberg for Galatia, Bru the Muscle, Erotica Ann, Verloona, and the House of Bajar: in addition to a deluxe trade paperback of the IDW series and a new production of the play in Florida, Elaine Lee will begin work with the AudioComics Company in 2011 on two spin-off Starstruck audio theatre series: a world-premiere “prequel” series, the stories of which take place between the events of the comics and the play, and an all-ages series of short audio plays featuring the Galactic Girl Guides.

"The suggested retail price (SRP) for the forthcoming two-disc CD of STARSTRUCK is $12.95 for pay-per-MP3 download.".

STARSTRUCK Audioplay download

"About AudioComics: Under the direction of Producers Lance Roger Axt, William Dufris, and Dan Bernard, AudioComics provides superior audio entertainment with its professional full-cast audio theatre adaptations of licensed and original properties from the world of comic books, graphic novels, and more. AudioComics productions of classic, contemporary and world premiere properties will reach new audiences far beyond readers and comic book fans through the universally popular entertainment medium of multi-track recorded sound and music on CD and in downloadable form, accessible in today’s market with today’s sound."
